THE OCBC PRESENTS 3RD ANNUAL 'OLD CITY WINDOWS 2011'
An all-in-one window competition, exhibit, and DesignPhiladelphia Event
Philadelphia, Pa. (August 30th, 2011) - On Friday, October 7th - Sunday, October 23rd, 2011, The Old City Business Collective launches the third edition of Old City Windows, a design-inspired window competition and exhibit celebrating innovative thinking and visual inspiration from students, artists, and professionals in various fields of design. The OCBC’s event kicks off on the popular First Friday in Old City - the public is invited to vote for their favorite window and enjoy a fun night out in Philadelphia’s most vibrant art, design, and fashion district.
During this three-week event, visitors can peruse windows featuring unexpected designs created by talent from the greater Philadelphia region as part of a competition awarding prizes for Best in Design (selected by a juried panel) and Public’s Favorite Window (compiled from online and text voting.)
Last year, the neighborhood-wide exhibit showcased a skeletal Betsy Ross sewing in a red-saturated storefront window designed by artist Tom Judd, Candy Depew’s bejeweled fish dancing around a designer showroom, and multi-colored textiles braided by display coordinator Hayley Carmo for a beauty studio.
In 2011, The OCBC aims to spotlight new talent and heighten the visual experience of Old City Windows. “We are thrilled to host this event and each year we are amazed at the creative energy we receive from the participants involved,” says Program Director, Monique Mason
An opening reception will be hosted at Dane Decor (315 Arch ST.) on Wednesday, October 12th from 6:00PM -9:00PM. Winners of the Windows competition will be announced at a celebratory event at Trust 249-51 Arch St.) on Wednesday, October 26th from 6:00PM-9:00PM. Open to the public.
As part of the larger city-wide DesignPhiladelphia event (October 13th – 23rd), Windows is hosted during a wide array of design events: Cocktails and Conversation at Scarlett Alley featuring a jewelry trunk show. Moko’s Pompadour debuts with on-site models pompadoured in various stylings – everything from the Gibson girls to rockabilly to modern-day street culture. Wear your best pomp to their party and receive a complimentary gift bag. NEXT? What is next on the design front? Hosted by Minima presents Handcrafted objects from around the world..
